Student Ambassador(casual opportunity)

The Student Recruitment and Widening Participation (SRWP) team works locally, regionally and nationally to support prospective students in making informed decisions about higher education and their future studies. We deliver a wide range of student recruitment and outreach activities, including Open Days, Decision Days, UCAS exhibitions, school and college visits, residential programmes and widening participation initiatives.

Student Ambassadors are at the heart of this work. As representatives of York St John University, they help bring the student experience to life by sharing their experiences, supporting events and activities, and creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for prospective students, applicants, parents, teachers and visitors.

The role may include:

- Supporting recruitment events such as Open Days, Decision Days and Interview Days.
- Supporting widening participation activities such as school visits, mentoring and residential programmes.
- Leading campus tours for prospective students and visitors.
- Delivering presentations, workshops and interactive activities to schools and colleges.
- Representing York St John University at UCAS exhibitions, careers fairs and other external events.
- Creating digital content which promotes York St John University and the student experience.
- Supporting other University departments and student-facing activities as required.

As a Student Ambassador, you will play an important role in helping prospective students develop a positive understanding of life at York St John University while acting as a positive role model and representative of the institution. You will join a vibrant community of over 100 ambassadors, working with staff from SRWP and across the University.

Required skills and experience:

Successful applicants will be current York St John University students based at the York campus, enthusiastic about their university experience and eager to share it with others.

You will:
- Be passionate about York St John University.
- Be keen to promote York St John University with a good knowledge of its key selling points.
- Have strong communication and active listening skills.
- Be personable, friendly, approachable and professional.
- Showcase preparedness, be reliable, punctual and well organised.
- Be able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Be able to adapt to different activities, audiences and environments.
- Have experience of, or interest in, working with groups traditionally underrepresented in Higher Education and/or target audiences (including prospective pupils, children and young people, parents/carers, teachers and careers advisors).

Previous experience of working with young people, delivering presentations, supporting events or working in a customer-facing role is welcomed but not essential. We are particularly interested in students who are enthusiastic, reliable and eager to develop new skills.

By joining the Student Ambassador team, you will gain valuable experience in communication, teamwork, event delivery, presentation skills and customer engagement while helping to shape the experiences of future York St John students.

Appointments to this role are subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This role is not eligible for Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship; applicants must be able to evidence right to work in the UK via an alternative route.
