If you've got experience in front-end development using React Native and/or experience as a QA, all the better!
The MyUoY team is a part of the IT Services Department and sits within our Software Development function. Our developers work in agile service delivery teams delivering solutions and supporting digital systems around a theme.
In this role you'll develop and maintain the MyUoY mobile app, supporting students in managing student life on-the-go.
The role has a full-stack and QA focus. You'll be helping develop new back-end infrastructure to support exciting new features in MyUoY, maintaining existing cloud-based APIs and contributing to front-end development in React Native. Additionally we are looking for someone with experience of manual and automated testing to strengthen our test capability. You will help extend our app test suite to ensure we continue to catch bugs early and often, sharing best practice with the team.
You'll be involved in all aspects of software development from contributing to your team's product roadmap and planning, to writing, delivering and testing software. You will do this using a mix of modern tools and technologies including Amazon Web Services, Typescript, React Native, Node.js and GitHub Workflows, and testing using Appium and Browserstack.
We work on a hybrid basis, with some days present on our York campus. Most software delivery teams work on site once a week as a team and there are meeting or planning days roughly once a month. You must be able to attend these days in person in York.
We value growth and potential over perfect checklists. If you bring fresh ideas and the right attitude, apply—even if you don't meet every tech requirement.
It may not be possible to offer Skilled Worker Sponsorship for this role, due to immigration requirements for the Skilled Worker Visa.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed:
- Experience developing and supporting real-world software in a modern programming language
- Experience in using software development practices such as unit testing and continuous integration
- Ability to communicate effectively and thoughtfully, working collaboratively with others
- A level 3 qualification (e.g. A-levels), or equivalent professional experience
Benefits:
- 30 days annual leave (38 days with bank holidays)
- Flexitime scheme, providing flexibility with start and finish times, and provision to take 3 additional flexi-leave days in a quarter
- Family friendly, flexible working arrangements, with forums and inclusive facilities to support staff
- Up to 2 volunteering days per year (pro-rata) as part of the Staff Volunteering Scheme
- Staff training and development courses
- Hybrid working
- Hybrid final salary and contribution based pension scheme with a 14.5% employer contribution rate
