Research Fellow - Mackenzie Institute

The Mackenzie Institute, within the University of Lancashire's School of Medicine and Dentistry, is seeking a Research Fellow to contribute to and develop high-quality research aligned with the Institute's thematic priorities. The post-holder will work with senior academic leads and colleagues across the School and wider University to deliver existing research and evaluation projects, develop new research activity and contribute to competitive external funding applications. The role provides scope to develop an independent programme of research and to disseminate findings through high-quality publications, conferences, seminars and other appropriate outputs.

An important component of the role will be supporting the development of early-career researchers, particularly NIHR-funded Academic Clinical Fellows, as well as research interns, intercalating students and postgraduate researchers. The post-holder will contribute to research training, mentoring and supervision, and help coordinate activities associated with the ACF programme alongside the Integrated Clinical Academic Training team. The role offers an opportunity to build experience across research, research leadership, funding development, researcher development, postgraduate supervision and academic programme coordination.

About you:
You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline and substantial experience of undertaking research in a clinically related, academic or health-related setting. You will have experience of using qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies, managing and delivering research or evaluation projects, and producing high-quality academic outputs. Excellent organisational, communication and academic writing skills are essential, together with the ability to work independently, exercise initiative and manage competing priorities while contributing effectively to a collaborative team.

You will also have experience of supporting, mentoring or developing students, researchers or colleagues, and the ability to communicate research concepts and methods effectively to individuals at different stages of academic development. You will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of research governance and good research practice, alongside the ability to develop and communicate research ideas and contribute to research proposals and funding applications.
