The project will involve the development of new theoretical and computational approaches to study topological quantum matter, in the context of condensed matter physics and ultracold atomic systems. The focus areas of the project include topological and geometric properties of fractional quantum Hall states and fractional Chern insulators, including their classical and quantum simulations (in particular, exact diagonalisation, matrix product state and neural quantum state methods, as well as quantum simulations).
Some recent papers relevant to the position include work available on arXiv: 2011.01955, 2107.10267, 2111.10395, 2301.04169, and 2401.17352.
What we offer in return:
- 26 days holiday plus approximately 16 Bank Holidays/days that the University is closed by custom (including Christmas) – 42 days a year in total.
- Generous pension scheme plus life assurance – the University contributes 14.5% of salary.
- Health and Wellbeing: Discounted staff membership options at The Edge, a state-of-the-art campus gym, with a pool, sauna, climbing wall, cycle circuit, and sports halls.
- Personal Development: Access to courses run by the Organisational Development & Professional Learning team.
- Access to on-site childcare, shopping discounts and travel schemes.
This post may be suitable for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route, though first-time applicants might need to qualify for salary concessions. For research and academic posts, eligibility under the Global Talent visa will also be considered.
