The main project that you would be working on will use a variety of materials science techniques (including materials preparation and characterisation and in vitro biological testing) and offers an opportunity for you to directly impact the development of materials for sustainable agriculture (particularly how their properties may influence their interactions with plants). The project is in collaboration with an industry partner.
About You
The successful candidate will:
- Have experience of prototype validation via biological testing (e.g., in vitro/vivo).
- Be able to demonstrate competent knowledge of health and safety and have experience of implementing safe systems and controls.
- Have experience of working in a chemistry laboratory.
Benefits
- Generous holiday leave: 25 days (pro-rata) annual leave plus University closure days and bank holidays.
- Access to employee pension scheme, and annual flexible benefits scheme.
- Commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion across the Faculty, and support for family-friendly and flexible working policies. The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze Award.
- The university is committed to supporting the professional and career development for all staff. Lancaster University is fully committed to the principles of the Concordat to support the career development of researchers, and holds the HR Excellence in Research Award.
About the Department
The Department of Chemistry was re-opened in 2012 and has undergone rapid expansion and development. The Department consists of a core complement of more than 20 members of academic staff and a thriving community of post-doctoral researchers, PGR and UG students with state-of-the-art labs housed in a completely refurbished building.
Lancaster University is highly ranked (10th overall in the UK Complete University Guide 2027). It was awarded the Times International University of the Year in 2020 and University of the Year in 2018, and holds a Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Gold rating. The University's campus is located in 560 acres of beautiful parkland on the edge of the small but vibrant city of Lancaster.
Informal enquiries are welcome and should be addressed to Dr John Hardy ([email protected]) and/or Prof. Ian Dodd ([email protected]).
