The Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre (NTEC) is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate/Fellow for a full-time position in the field of sustainable pavement engineering for an initial period of 12 months, with the possibility of an extension for a further 15 months, subject to mutual agreement.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a number of innovative research projects alongside NTEC's internationally recognised academic team, focusing on the development and sustainability assessment of next-generation pavement materials and road infrastructure.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development and application of novel research methodologies, particularly in material flow analysis, life cycle assessment (LCA), life cycle sustainability assessment (LCSA), and the environmental, economic and social evaluation of sustainable pavement technologies.

Working closely with academic, industry and international collaborators, the role holder will contribute to advancing low-carbon and circular solutions for road infrastructure, ensuring that research outcomes support practical implementation. The Research Associate/Fellow will also be expected to prepare high-quality research outputs, including publications in leading international journals, technical reports and research grant proposals.

Candidates should have obtained or submitted a PhD (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Engineering, Sustainability Engineering or a closely related discipline by the start date of the position. Demonstrable expertise in life cycle assessment and sustainability assessment methodologies is essential, while knowledge of pavement engineering, road construction materials and sustainable infrastructure is highly desirable.
