You will work on the KIKOHOZI project to develop and test a cough sound analytic tool for respiratory disease detection (the Kikohozi classifier) and evaluate its feasibility for use in primary care in semi-urban and rural Tanzania.
You will also need a problem-solving ability to manage and analyse datasets and the ability to publish academic outputs.
The successful candidate will have a good honours degree and Master's/PhD degree, or equivalent research experience, in computer science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, engineering or a closely related discipline. They should also have excellent (or capability to upskill) computing and programming skills in multiple languages and environments. Experience with machine learning and AI in biomedical settings would be considered favourable.
You will be a member of the KIKOHOZI international research team based in the UK and Tanzania and will report regularly on progress and attend regular meetings with project partner groups.
Benefits include an attractive pension scheme, a generous holiday allowance plus Christmas closure, excellent learning and development opportunities, and savings on a wide range of products and services. A generous maternity/paternity/adoption/parental leave policy, and onsite childcare facilities are also offered. Flexible working options are available. The University is a Living Wage employer.
