Sign in Create an accountThe Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics is seeking to recruit a new Faculty member who can contribute to research and teaching in Statistics from September 2027 (or by agreement).
Statistics is broadly interpreted, and includes theoretical aspects of mathematical statistics through to foundations of machine learning.
Appointment will be made at Assistant Professor (Grade 9), which, subject to satisfactory completion of a probation period (3-5 years), leads to a tenured position.
Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent in Statistics, Mathematics, or a closely related subject. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of research excellence and be able to lecture a range of courses in statistics at undergraduate and master's levels. They will have the ability, or potential, to secure research funding to support their research vision and build a network of collaborators.
The post-holder will be part of the world-leading Statistical Laboratory with strong interdisciplinary connections within Cambridge, the UK, and internationally.
The University of Cambridge has been ranked in the top 5 for Mathematics in the QS World Rankings for each of the last 5 years. The Mathematics departments occupy a modern, purpose-built campus, also including the Isaac Newton Institute.
As well as relocation costs, start-up packages (up to 5 years) are provided to assist the post-holder in establishing their research in Cambridge, and regular sabbatical leave enables the Faculty to focus on research and scholarship.
Informal enquiries should be directed in the first instance to Professor Po-Ling Loh via email at [email protected].
Closing date for applications is Monday, 7 December 2026. References will be contacted promptly upon receipt of applications, and all reference letters must be submitted by Monday, 14 December 2026. Interviews will provisionally take place between 25 January and 05 February 2027.
