Do you have an excellent research track record, proven success obtaining funding and the vision and drive to tackle new challenges? Are you passionate about delivering world leading research and an exceptional student experience?
As Associate Professor, you will carry out research, teaching and management within the school, faculty and university and contribute to academic leadership in the field of biomedical and sport and exercise science.
You will join a vibrant, supportive, and highly collaborative Cardiovascular and Exercise Sciences research pillar. The pillar has an established international reputation for research spanning cardiovascular, respiratory, and musculoskeletal physiology using experimental human, clinical and computational approaches. The research extends from fundamental discovery science to translational application, investigating physiological mechanisms and developing innovative approaches to improve health, recovery and rehabilitation.
We welcome applications from candidates whose research will complement and extend our existing portfolio. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research advances our understanding of the physiological responses and adaptations to exercise and other forms of physiological stress, with applications in healthy ageing, disease prevention, and the treatment and rehabilitation of people living with acute and chronic health conditions.
You will establish and lead an independent research programme, securing competitive external research funding and developing interdisciplinary collaborations within and beyond the University. You will contribute to innovation and excellence in teaching, supervise and develop postgraduate researchers, and provide academic leadership and mentorship to colleagues.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of exercise physiology at Leeds and deliver research with international reach and impact. The School sits within the newly formed Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, bringing together fundamental and clinical scientists with access to outstanding research infrastructure, from state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and specialist equipment to strong partnerships with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
What we offer in return:
- 26 days holiday plus approximately 16 Bank Holidays/days that the University is closed by custom (including Christmas) – that's 42 days a year!
- Generous pension scheme options plus life assurance.
- Health and Wellbeing: Discounted staff membership options at The Edge, our state-of-the-art Campus gym, with a pool, sauna, climbing wall, cycle circuit, and sports halls.
- Personal Development: Access to courses run by our Organisational Development & Professional Learning team.
- Access to on-site childcare, shopping discounts and travel schemes are also available.
