Associate Lecturer – Digital Direction (0.05 & 0.22 FTE, Fixed term) - Internal vacancy for RCA Employees only

The Royal College of Art is seeking to appoint two Associate Lecturers to contribute to the delivery of our postgraduate Digital Direction programme for the 2026/27 academic year.

Digital Direction explores the future of storytelling through emerging technologies, including virtual and augmented reality and mobile platforms. The programme encourages students to approach contemporary communication critically and to experiment with meaningful, inclusive and socially conscious ways of telling stories.

We are looking for creative and collaborative practitioners with expertise in Augmented Reality (AR) and Extended Reality (XR), who can bring current industry knowledge and innovative approaches to teaching.

As an Associate Lecturer, you will contribute to high-quality postgraduate teaching, tuition and academic support, helping students explore the creative and practical applications of AR and XR in addressing real-world issues. Working collaboratively with the programme team, you will deliver engaging teaching and tutorials, provide constructive feedback, support student development and contribute to curriculum design and assessment activities as appropriate. You will also help students understand the wider social, ethical and environmental contexts of emerging digital technologies, encouraging critical thinking and experimentation.

About you:

You will have a degree in a relevant Extended Reality or related specialism, experience of working in the XR industry and a commitment to delivering high-quality, inclusive postgraduate teaching. You will bring experience of individual and group teaching, including online and blended learning, and the ability to work collaboratively with students from diverse backgrounds.

A Master's degree in a relevant discipline, experience of supervising Master's-level academic work and experience of developing and teaching postgraduate courses would be desirable.
