The School of Education and English is looking for an ambitious, talented, and experienced academic with a passion for teaching and a well-developed research profile to join its team of scholars in the field of Applied Linguistics, with special emphasis on quantitative analysis and language acquisition.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching, curriculum development and supervision within the undergraduate English and Applied Linguistics programme as well as the following PGT programmes: MA in Applied Linguistics and MA TESOL. There will also be opportunities to provide supervision for growing numbers of PhD and EdD students. The successful candidate will be expected to take a lead role in collaborative research projects, as well as conducting original research of their own that results in presentations and publications of a high international standing in relevant and recognised areas of applied linguistics and ELT.
Candidates must have completed a doctoral degree in applied linguistics or a closely related field, have recent experience of teaching across a range of undergraduate and MA modules, and experience of successfully supervising PGT (Master's) and PhD students. Knowledge of and experience with quantitative research methods is a must, and experience with AI in language acquisition and language assessment practices are highly desirable.
The School of Education and English brings together schools in China, the UK and Malaysia, providing opportunities for academics to work collaboratively on a range of programmes and projects involving Applied Linguistics, International Higher Education, Translation and Interpreting, Cognitive Neuroscience, Literature and Drama, and other fields. The School is a research-active unit enhanced by state-of-the-art laboratories, research centres and experienced academics. Research areas include Psycholinguistics, Intercultural Communication, Multilingualism, Educational Leadership, Language Teaching Education (TESOL), Translation and Interpreting, Literary Studies, and International Higher Education.
The successful candidate will initially be offered a fixed-term contract for a period of up to 5 years, which may then be extended by mutual agreement. Benefits include an internationally competitive salary package, accommodation allowance, health insurance, assistance with schooling fees for dependents, home flights, relocation and repatriation support, 30 days paid annual leave, and Chinese national holidays. Opportunities to apply for Chinese talent schemes may also be available based on individual eligibility.
